Frequent questions

What do your products do?

SKWOL™ products are made for sustaining the long-term shine and protection of your boat and to prevent premature aging.

Can your products remove oxidation?

Our formulas are designed to protect every surface on your boat and to prevent oxidation, fading, cracking and discoloration. Once oxidation occurs, it must be removed with semi-abrasive compounding, and can be followed by a simple seasonal application of SKWOL Deck & Hull to prevent it from returning.

How many bottles of Deck & Hull do I need for my boat?

One bottle of Deck & Hull ceramic spray coating can coat a boat up to 80ft with proper application. (ex.) A 20' boat should be able to be coated 4X or more.

How much SiO2 is in Deck & Hull?

The unfortunate fact is that a number of brands in the detailing industry claim to have "more SiO2" or "More active ingredient" or even invent creative names of their own for commonly used active ingredients in their formulas. In the marketing world, "more active ingredient or the highest %" is known as an "RTB" or "reason to believe/buy" - something brands use to appear unique or superior to consumers. The concept of having "more" active ingredient implies quality and/or performance, but rarely is that true.

Think of any meal or cocktail recipe for example; Too much of any one ingredient flaws the outcome. Too much alcohol in a drink or too much yeast in a baguette can spell disaster for a recipe. The truth is that performance boils down to balance.

Our motto is "Formula Follows Function™". We choose not to promote "more or most" in terms of ingredients. We focus on chemistry, balance, durability and longevity, instead. Active ingredients require a supporting balance of other non-active ingredients to perform their best.

While it's important that a protective coating containing SiO2 is formulated with a precise volume of the active ingredient, there is an unfortunate misconception between Sio2 chemical concentration and product performance (promoted by industry brand marketing claims for perceived quality and to influence sales). Any chemical engineer will tell us that the science-backed truth is what makes for a high-performing spray sealant such as SKWOL Deck & Hull, is its balance which is determined by years of expertise and rigorous trial and error in extreme conditions. SiO2 plays a starring role, but in order for it to be effective at maintaining the longest-lasting depth of shine and durability over time, it requires a variety of supporting actors. For these reasons above, SKWOL Deck & Hull is the best performing formula in its class.

Where are your products made?

All SKWOL formulas are proudly made and bottled in the U.S.A. We are a certified small business. Family-owned and operated.

What makes SKWOL different?

Unlike detail sprays and spray waxes, which offer short-term shine and protection for days-to-weeks, our coatings are capable of lasting 6 months under harsh conditions, and longer depending on how your boat is stored when not in use.

By forming a covalent bond with your boat's surfaces, our concentrated formulas are designed to provide an added layer of highly-durable protection from staining, scratches, aging, fading, cracking and discoloration.

Does SKWOL prevent water spots?

The fact is that water spots cannot be completely prevented because they're the result of impurities and minerals in the water as it evaporates on and around the boat. Those spots live on the surface of your boat and if left unprotected (or with a protective layer that only lasts for a few days or weeks) they become hard to remove because they etch and penetrate your boat's porous gel coat.

Our product makes them much easier to remove because the formula actually bonds with the boat's gelcoat (filling in the microscopic pores and forming a hydrophobic and durable protective "sacrificial layer" that the spots cannot penetrate so they can be more easily removed.

The #1 mistake that boaters make is using a soap that has active degreasers in it (including Dawn dish soap and simple green) which strip the protective coating and make it susceptible to marine contaminates, oxidation and premature aging.

We make a "Wash & Prep" which can be used as a surface preparation to help our "Deck & Hull" bond for longer. The wash and prep can also be used as a pH balanced wash in between coatings to remove water spots, salt deposits and more without stripping your protection. The boat will stay looking newer for longer as a result and water spots won't plague you like they do without all of the above.

How is "SKWOL" pronounced?

SKWOL (pronounced "squall") is named after the term for a violent storm at sea.
